Who doesn’t love velvet? The lushness, the softness and the certain glow the fabric brings to a piece. Velvet fabric is mostly used in products where it’s positioned close to the skin. Since velvet has a unique visual appeal, it’s used for curtains, throw pillows, and upholstery. Due to the durability factor, cotton or polyester velvet would be the best type to use for upholstery. The benchmarks for velvet qual- ity are the density of the warp, the gauge of yarn, and the complexity of the fiber content. As with most fabrics, the higher the pick count, the higher the quality and cost.
And one more very-cool thing: Sometimes we hang velvet going the “opposite” way. It catches the light in an interesting way and creates lots of lustre. We love velvet! --Freddie
